Arsya Giri talks sustainable fashion: A young fashion designer, discovered her passion for design through design lectures during her Media Communications classes in India.

While conventional cutting methods in fashion often result in fabric wastage of 15% to 25%, she tackles this issue by recycling leftover fabric in creative ways. Moreover, transforms fabric offcuts into unexpected designs when draped on mannequins and utilizes them for fabric manipulations and textures. Embracing zero waste pattern cutting, Arsya has changed her approach to fabric cutting to minimize wastage, a process that requires experimentation and in-depth study.

With a strong sense of social responsibility, Arsya showcases her collections at her studio in Budhanilkantha, where no piece of fabric or thread is discarded. She upcycles offcuts without compromising on design, viewing it as a dialogue with the material. The result is dresses with impeccable stitches that reflect minimal wastage.

Arsya pursued fashion designing at the London School of Fashion and prioritizes sustainable creations over commercial trends. By minimizing waste and reusing scrap, she has turned her method into her USP. She enjoys experimenting with creative ways to make offcuts look aesthetic.

In line with the fashion industry’s shift towards sustainability, Arsya aims to minimize waste through simple steps. Currently working on her summer collection, she plans to incorporate flowy fabrics such as georgette, satin, chiffon, and cotton, with pastel shades and a few bright colors. The collection will be available online from April 1.

Arsya named her brand Marsyangde, as she wanted more than just her name as the label. The name beautifully blends with her own and reflects her brand’s identity.

She minimizes waste while maintaining exquisite designs. Her passion for up-cycling and creativity shines through her collections.
